Stars fans had the opportunity to see newest additions, Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci, take the ice last night.

Happy Monday, DBD!

The Stars came out with a good win last night against a competitive Columbus Blue Jackets squad, highlighted by Evgenni Dadonov’s two third period goals that put the Stars ahead for good. While those two goals were highlights of their own, fans were also treated to having Mason Marchment back on the ice. Throw in the opportunity to see the team’s two newest skaters in game action for the first time, and there was plenty to look at Sunday evening. Dallas Morning News writer, Lia Assimakopoulos identified how these two new players fit in almost instantly, while also gathering some remarks from the players:

“Granlund set up Dallas’ second goal of the night, finding Logan Stankoven in motion after a Blue Jackets turnover in their own zone. He also had two shots, two hits and played 12:34.

“It’s nice to jump in on that one, and I’m sure my game will get better as the time goes on and you get more comfortable and learn other guys’ tendencies,” Granlund said postgame.

Ceci played 21:39 and recorded one shot, one blocked shot and one hit.

“It’s been pretty crazy,” he said. “It definitely all happened really fast. … This is a really good hockey team. Fun to be a part of.”

Ceci skated alongside Esa Lindell in his debut, while Granlund first centered Dallas’ third line with Jamie Benn and Dadonov, eventually skating with his former teammate Matt Duchene plus Marchment.

Stars head coach, Pete DeBoer was pleased with what he saw in their first game:

“Really solid, as advertised, especially when you consider they flew across the country last night and everything that’s on your plate, new team, new system…I thought they both fit in seamlessly.”

Time will tell how our new players are integrated and utilized, not to mention any additional moves the Stars make before the deadline to give us the best chance of making another deep postseason run.
