Dallas Stars Daily Links: Happy Festivus

The Stars are at risk of their first three-game skid of the season. Can they get back on track tonight?

Coming out of a six-game homestand 3-3 leaves more to be desired, but perhaps getting out of Dallas and back on the road to a somewhat cooler Salt Lake City is what this team needs to help them get back on track. This game also holds a little bit more weight now than it did earlier in the season, considering the Dallas Stars are right next to Utah in the Central Division now, where the team currently sits in 4th place (Utah is in 5th).

Despite the power play still struggling (Dallas ranks 25th on PP%, yes 25th), it’s good to see somewhat of a resurgence from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to get this team back on track. Everyone just seems out of synch and the same struggles that have been plaguing the team all season continue. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn’t get any easier, as the Stars are set to face the Minnesota Wild on Friday (2nd in the Central) and the Chicago Blackhawks next Sunday (you may laugh, but this team has done a pretty good job living up to the “trap” designation). After the Blackhawks, the Stars face off against the struggling Buffalo Sabres, which one would like to think is a win we can get to cap off 2024 and head into 2025 on a high note.

Hopefully the team we expect shows up tonight and rights the ship, but I think if these struggles continue, real consideration should be put into some roster/line/coaching changes to shake things up.

Kind of want to frame this:

Happy Otter-days!

Around The Central

With the exception of the Colorado Avalanche, all the Central Division teams will be on the ice tonight:

  • The Winnipeg Jets take a trip north of the border to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs this afternoon [ESPN]. It sounds like the Leafs will be without Austin Matthews for this one.
  • The St. Louis Blues will try and snap the blues tonight as they play a Detroit Red Wings squad that dropped two straight to the Montreal Canadians. The Blues are currently on a three-game losing streak [ESPN].
  • The Nashville Predators are hosting the Carolina Hurricanes for a Festivus celebration tonight [ESPN]. The Predators have struggled to find their identify this season so a win heading into the holidays could help boost the morale.
  • The Chicago Blackhawks will head to Minnesota to take on the Wild in an interdivision matchup tonight. The Wild have lost four-straight and this Blackhawks team has a reputation of winning against talented squads, so yes, dropping five-straight is certainly possible [ESPN].

I think it’s fair to say there is some regret not re-signing him…

The World of Chel

Too busy wrapping gifts last night? All good. I’ll unwrap what happened last night:

Lots of shaved ice tonight:

Good.

Great Weekend for Stars Affiliates

The Texas Stars completed a weekend road sweep of the Central Division leading Milwaukee Admirals and the Grand Rapids Griffins. The later in comeback fashion – with Justin Hyrckowian tying things up in the last two minutes with Arttu Hyry jamming in the game winner in overtime.

Meanwhile, Texas is temporarily without its Captain – but its a good thing, as Curtis McKenzie is representing Canada in the Spengler Cup.

And, lets give some love to the human highlight reel that is Antonio Stranges.

Back in Idaho, the Steelheads started working their way back to the Mountain Division peak with a sweep of the Rapid City Rush.
