The Four Nations rosters have been released!
Happy Thursday, DBD! Stars’ Nation has seen better days than yesterday. On the bright side, the organization found out that they will have a large presence during this February’s Four Nations Faceoff. Seven, yes seven, members of the organization were selected, which include Esa Lindell, Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, Jake Oettinger, Jim Nill, Pete DeBoer, and Misha Donskov. Dallas Stars Senior Staff Writer, Mike Heika, had the chance to speak to the guys about not only being selected, but having the opportunity to compete against fellow teammates, coaches and friends during this unique experience.
“We’re all excited,” said Stars GM Jim Nill, who will serve as associate GM for Team Canada. “It’s a compliment to our organization.
…It’s a great opportunity to represent your country.”
Although these are the initial rosters released, there could be some late changes as Stars’ coach Pete DeBoer highlighted:
“Having gone through the process, there’s also a whole ‘nother group of guys that weren’t named that are still in the mix, because this tournament is not until February and we’ve got some guys in our room who I know are in those conversations for all of the different teams,” DeBoer said.
Jason Robertson could be a candidate to play for Team USA, while both Matt Duchene and Mason Marchment could be in the mix for Team Canada. And even players who were named could be jockeying for position on their national rosters. Oettinger looks like a likely backup to Connor Hellebuyck for Team USA, but he could move into the No. 1 spot with his play in the next two months.”
The Four Nations Faceoff will take place between February 12-17th in lieu of the All-Star Game. The tournament will be in round-robin format, where the two teams with the most standings points will play in the championship on February 20th. Exciting times, Hockey Nation!

On the other hand, congratulations to Jake Oettinger for making Team USA despite some concern he was on the fringe of making the team!

Several Central Division teams are in action this evening:
- The Winnipeg Jets travel to snowy Buffalo to take on the Sabres. I would expect this to be a battle of the goalies, with both the Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck and Sabres’ Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen making their respective Four Nations squads [ESPN].
- The Nashville Predators stay north of the border to take on the Montreal Canadians. The Predators look to bounce back after a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs last night [ESPN].
- The Colorado Avalanche will pay the Carolina Hurricanes a visit this evening in hopes of handing them their fourth straight loss [ESPN].
- The St. Louis Blues will head to Calgary to face off against the Flames tonight. The Blues will look to continue their momentum after a commanding 4-1 victory against the Jets on Tuesday [ESPN].
