2020 NHL Trade Deadline Day Thread

The trade deadline is finally here. By late afternoon, fans around the league will either be celebrating, heartbroken, or somewhere in the middle depending on what their team does with their current roster.

While the Dallas Stars haven’t been been rumored to be in the market for big signings today, that doesn’t necessarily mean the team refrains from any moves. They may decide to trade prospects, AHL players, draft picks, or a combination of the three. With the current salary cap, Dallas only has $815 of free space. No, that’s not a typo, the Stars really do have only $815 before the cap ceiling. If the Stars are looking to land a big signing, expect the front office to send several players with bridge contracts or at least one player with a waived trade clause to the other team(s) involved in the deal. The lack of salary cap space may prompt the team to trade prospects or AHL players for more draft picks (or vice versa) to supplement their homegrown talent. It would certainly be an initial step toward clearing space for future bridge deals for Denis Gurianov, Roope Hintz, and Miro Heiskanen when their entry-level contracts expire.

So will the Stars make minor moves today? Will they bet the farm on a big name on the open market? Hang out with us in the comments below!
