His Dallas Stars playing career ended much too soon, but Raptor Jesus still saves – and assists.
As the Stars’ player development coordinator, Rich Peverley does everything from coaching to evaluating to occasionally carpooling, writes The Athletic’s Sean Shapiro:
When Peverley drove seven hours from Guelph to Traverse City last week... [he] stopped in Kitchener to pick-up Riley Damiani. Roughly three hours and an international border later, they stopped in Flint to pick up Ty Dellandrea. Then there was a quick stop in Saginaw to grab Nicholas Porco before the group traveled the final two and half hours up to Traverse City.
“It’s something I do every year,” Peverley said. “I’m going to make the drive either way, so it’s a nice setup to spend some more time with those guys.”
Pevs is just one story Sean is keeping up with during the Traverse City Prospects Tournament. The series can be rough for netminders, and he used Colton Point’s difficult start as a jumping-off place to examine how they get ready to compete:
There’s only so much a goalie can refine and do in the summer to be ready for game action. Hours spent with their goalie coach are in controlled environments and so-called game-type situations in summer scrimmages aren’t like games at all, since skaters are often moving at half speed.
If anything, preseason is for the goalies. As Ben Bishop told me a couple of weeks ago, the only thing that can prepare you for an NHL game is an NHL game....
The last season was an extremely difficult one for Point, filled with a loss of confidence and injuries. He’s freely admitted it, and that admission is an ideal coping mechanism.
All this and MORE FINNS are behind the paywall. [The Athletic DFW]
He’s playing big, he’s under control, his reads are impeccable...Bish is magical, and he’s a Top 50 Player Right Now, says the NHL Network.
He also joined John Klingberg on the preseason media tour, which means there will be more video like this soon.

Another hockey doc is making the rounds, and this story of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the post-Soviet Red Army sounds like my cup of weird.
'Red Penguins,' a new documentary screening at @TIFF_NET, tells a jaw-dropping tale of the business partnership between the Penguins and Red Army, which resulted in everything from bears-as-waitors to unsolved murders.— The Hockey News (@TheHockeyNews) September 10, 2019

However you feel about Derek Laxdal, he’s serious about making sure his Texas Stars are ready to play in Big D.
"We've got scorers, we've got shutdown defensemen, we've got offensive defensemen, we've got good goalies. Now, we just have to make sure these players are ready when they get called upon."#GoStars https://t.co/3oziSuo28X— Dallas Stars (@DallasStars) September 9, 2019
Hockey celebrated National Teddy Bear Day with plenty of Teddy Bear Toss reminders. Enjoy.
