Dallas Stars Daily Links: Sweden Wins IIHF Gold

New, comments

Klingberg and Janmark can now carry their championship pedigree into next NHL season. Plus, Golden Knights continue their historic run, Texas Stars OT, and more.

Sweden is officially World Champions after beating Denmark Switzerland (in Copenhagen) 3-2 in a shootout yesterday in the IIHF Championship. I promise you that even though I’m very tempted, I won’t make any Austin Powers 3 jokes about Goldmember being from Sweden and being obsessed with gold, mostly because that was not a great movie (to put it generously).

That being said, our favorite future Norris Trophy winner John Klingberg was recognized for his contributions to Sweden’s victory:

Klingberg, who finished the tournament with six points (one goal, five assists) and a plus-6 rating in 10 games, was the named the tournament’s best defenseman by the IIHF Directorate.

Congratulations to Sweden (especially the Dallas Stars on the roster), and also to Jere Lehtinen, as you’ll see below! See Mark Stepneski’s final day of the IIHF tournament wrap-up here.

Stars Stuff

Jere Lehtinen was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. Congratulations!:

Sean Shapiro had a very informative chat with Jim Montgomery, who traveled down to Cedar Park to see the young guns in Game 1 of the AHL WCF:

Playoff update:

  • The magical Vegas Golden Knights season continued last night as they beat the Winnipeg Jets to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. Unreal. Someone mentioned this in the comments the other day, but I think the Stars are officially absolved of their opening night loss to Vegas this season. [NHL]

I keep seeing all these headlines and tweets about all of the Vegas haters, and I’ve been thinking that it’s just writers looking for something to talk about, because I don’t personally know any myself. But then I looked at some of the comments on tweets such as this and realized that I guess they are out there. People will find a way to get mad about anything:

For example, I don’t even know what the point is that this guy is trying to make. Of course other teams are jealous that they aren’t in the Stanley Cup:

Scott Burnside sat down for a chat with Barry Trotz (before the Washington Capitals lost on Saturday):

USA beat Canada (in a bronze medal game)!:

Hmm, it turns out skating is a valuable asset for a defenseman to have:

Texas Stars

The Cedar Park crew is crushing it in the AHL playoffs:

Jason Dickinson put the Stars on the board in the second to tie the game at 1-1:

Brett Regner added a power play goal a couple minutes later to give Texas the lead:

Here’s the OT game-winning goal from Curtis McKenzie:

Here’s the man of the hour postgame:

Holy mackerel, that’s a lot of free hockey:

And finally: this is a great hockey guy move:
