Trade Deadline Day Open Thread

New, comments

Will the Stars make any moves? We’re not sure yet. But moves will happen today, and we’re here to keep on top of all of it.

NHL: Dallas Stars at Ottawa Senators

There’s a lot to unpack on NHL trade deadline day, both Dallas Stars related and unrelated (but potentially impacting their peers, so having an indirect impact on Dallas and their potential playoff odds.)

Will the Ottawa Senators swing a massive trade today for Erik Karlsson? The Tampa Bay Lightning have been linked to the stud defensemen, and apparently the Vegas Golden Knights have emerged in the early hours of the morning as making a serious pitch for his services.

What about Max Pacioretty from the Montreal Canadiens? The Minnesota Wild and Los Angeles Kings have both been linked to the Habs captain, so that’s one that could definitely impact Dallas if he ends up in the Central Division. He could be one of the top forwards teams look at acquiring now that Rick Nash has been traded to the Boston Bruins over the weekend, taking him off the board.

I’m curious to see if there is yet another three-team trade that goes down. A rarity in the NHL, we’ve seen two already leading up to today’s 3 PM EST trade deadline:

Pittsburgh Penguins/Ottawa Senators/Vegas Golden Knights:

PIT acquired Derick Brassard, with the Golden Knights retaining 40 percent of his contract value, Tobias Lindberg, Vincent Dunn, and a 2018 third-round pick from VGK
OTT acquired Filip Gustavsson, Ian Cole, 2018 first-round pick, 2019 third-round pick from PIT
VGK acquired Ryan Reaves, 2018 fourth-round pick from PIT

Columbus Blue Jackets/Edmonton Oilers/Nashville Predators:

CBJ acquired Mark Letestu from EDM
EDM acquired Pontus Aberg from NSH
NSH acquired a 2018 fourth-round pick from CBJ
