NOTE: This was written before Sunday evening’s games.
North American Juniors and NCAA
Nicholas Caamano played three games this week for the Flint Firebirds. He had a pair of points, a goal and an assist, during a 6-4 loss to the Owen Sound Attack on Wednesday.
He was named the third star of the game.
Chris Martenet had a single point this week, his tenth with the Ottawa 67s, during a 5-2 win against the Oshawa Generals.
Martenet has 16 points this season, matching his regular season record from two years ago.
Ondrej Vala played two games for the Kamloops Blazers this week and finished without a point.
He has 25 points through 60 games for the Blazers. They have qualified for the WHL playoffs.
Joseph Cecconi’s second season in the NCAA has finished after Michigan were beaten by Penn State in the Big Ten quarterfinal.
Cecconi went pointless as Michigan lost 4-1 but played on their top defensive pairing. He had nine points in 35 games this season.
Rhett Gardner and the University of North Dakota are through to the NCAA West Regional semifinal after winning the NCHC semifinal against Denver. Despite their loss to Minnesota Duluth they still advanced to the NCAA West Regional semifinal.
He went pointless in the two games he played and will face Boston University in the next round on Friday.
Riley Tufte played two games for Minnesota Duluth as they won two games to progress to their regional semifinal.
Tufte had a single goal over the weekend. He scored at even strength during Saturday’s game against North Dakota which Minnesota Duluth won 4-3.
Niklas Hansson was a healthy scratch for HV71’s first playoff game against Farjestad, a 3-1 win.
John Nyberg played both of Frolunda’s first two playoff games against Skelleftea, going pointless but averaging over 21 minutes in each game. Frolunda split the games with one win and one loss with game three to be played today.
Fredrik Karlstrom’s AIK made it through the roundrobin tournament to play for a chance to be promoted to the SHL.
AIK split the first two game of the series with the deciding game three being played today.
Karlstrom only played one of those games, it appears he was out of action because he was ill and could miss today’s game as well.
Roope Hintz had a pair of assists for HIFK as they advanced through the Liiga’s first round to face TPS in the second round.
Hintz had an assist in each of the two games he played as HIFK advanced past Karpat with a pair of 4-3 wins.
Aleksi Makela played three games for Assat in their opening playoff series as they lost 2-1 to Ilves. He went pointless through their games and his season is over.
Makela has not been signed to an entry level contract by the Dallas Stars and I believe they will lose his rights this summer.
