Dallas Stars Daily Links: Blackhawks Down; Stars Defeat Chicago 4-0

New, comments

That was fun! Plus, reignited rivalries, the top NHL player right now, and recovering from slow starts.

Happy Festivus Eve everyone! Everything went right last night: scoring from the big boys and from depth, a clean sheet (“S-word" according to Razor) for Ben Bishop, and the power play got going a little bit (officially only 1 goal, but Jamie Benn’s tally came 2 seconds after the PP ended). It’s one of the few games I remember that the Stars had more time on the PP than their opponent, which definitely helps. Also, Ken Hitchcock got his 800th career win, which is pretty awesome. Here are some highlights:

The first period was pretty uneventful, with Razor describing the action as a “chess match.” There were very few breaks in play and not many chances for either side until Jamie Benn crammed in a pass from Remi Elie, and then had a great aggressive start to his celly:

The second period is when the Stars really took off. Antoine Roussel took a break from antagonizing the Blackhawks to deflect in Dam Hamhuis’ slapper from the point:

Then, Tyler Seguin decided he had had enough of this whole “not scoring goals” thing and cleaned up Jason Spezza’s rebound. John Klingberg picked up his 25th?!? assist:

Seguin and Devin Shore got “so greasy” to give the Stars a 4-0 lead:

Seguin had a few opportunities to doff his cap in the third, but none came to fruition, and the game ended at 4-0. The score last night actually was a good indication of how the game went down, as the Stars were never really in peril. Let’s hope they can keep it up for the remainder of the Central Division showdowns. Happy weekend/Festivus/whatever holiday you may or may not celebrate!

Stars Stuff

I had to read this like three times before I think I got the gist of what Ken Hitchcock was saying. Hockey Lifer speak at its peak:

The Rangers/Devils rivalry is BACK!, evidently. [Sporting News]

Former NHL-er Corey Hirsch explains how a change of scenery can really revitalize a player, which is what Pittsburgh is hoping it can do with the Big Rig. I think many Stars fans would argue that this is definitely not always the case, however. [SportsNet]

One Star made the top-20ish list that Dave Lozo put together to rank the best player in the NHL right now. Who do you think it might be?:

The Islanders pulled off an increasingly rare feat with securing a new arena deal/location without inspiring massive outrage from fans and (mostly) media. Ken Campbell thinks Calgary and Ottawa could learn a thing or two from them:

I think we all knew it was just a matter of time with most of these guys:
