Saturday brought new heartbreak as Jason "Daddy" Demers signed a deal with the Florida Panthers.
I guess the good news is he'll be joining current/former/I'm not sure how to classify this time frame teammate Colton Sceviour in the Sunshine State.
DBD parent SB Nation gives the Demers signing an A-, which I'm inclined to agree with. Mostly because the idea of Aaron Ekblad, who looks roughly 35 years old, calling anyone "daddy" is pretty amusing to me. [SBNation]
And TSN has all the details on the signing, like term and money. [TSN]
I'm hearing Bruins are in on D Kris Russell. Perfect candidate for B's to massively overpay. Word is he turned down 4 yrs, $17M+ w/Leafs— Joe Haggerty (@HackswithHaggs) July 3, 2016
Take it with a grain of salt.

Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports has the winners and losers of Day 1 of Free Agent Frenzy. Potential loser: whoever signs Kris Russell. Winner: whoever signed veteran defensemen. (That would be us.) [PuckDaddy]

Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes the hot button issue of the next lock out could potentially be signing bonuses, and points to newly signed contracts of Kyle Okposo, Steven Stamkos, and Andrew Ladd as prime examples of what will lead to the next labor negotiation. [New York Post]
Disgruntled Montreal Canadiens fan (officially former fan, at this point) Julie Martin left her jersey outside the Bell Centre at the feet of the Jean Beliveau statue. With a scathing note handwritten in permanent marker. You might be sad about the UFAs we've let go so far, but at least you haven't had to deal with disappointment like this, Stars fans. I know you can't step on the logo in the locker room, what's the protocol for defacing the logo on the jersey? [SBNation]
And for more on PK Subban and his troubles in Montreal, Brian Wilde of CTV went on TSN 1290 Winnipeg to discuss tension in the locker room and who really won and lost the trade.
In a move that seems to be puzzling a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans, the team has signed defenseman Roman Polak to another season.
The Leafs must've locked the analytics guys in the cellar.— Jason Brough (@JasonPHT) July 2, 2016
That said if signing Polak means no Russell I'm totally okay with it.— Jeff Veillette (@JeffVeillette) July 2, 2016
One of the bigger moves on Saturday was Chicago re-signing defenseman Brian Campbell to a one year deal. Campbell is apparently all in on his former team, with whom he won a Cup in 2010, saying he doesn't care what his role is. [SCN Chicago]

My good pal @BizNasty2point0 has signed with the AHL Ontario Reign, farm team of LAK. Congrats, Biz. Can't keep a good (1985 born) man down.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) July 2, 2016
After passing on a player that donated 10 million dollars to a children's hospital, the Montreal Canadiens signed a player who once hit his coach with his stick. Seems reasonable. [Globe and Mail]
The Stanley Cup has begun it's tour of champions, starting with often injured but always adorable forward Beau Bennett in California, the other sunshine state.
And finally, there is no chill to be had in Toronto. [Sports Blog]
