If you look at the numbers, Dallas possessed the puck more when Goligoski was on the ice â and quite effectively. In the regular season, Goligoski had the 16th best Corsi number amongst defenseman with a 53.69 percent Corsi For percentage. John Klingberg, his defensive partner, finished seventh in the league at 55.62 (Kings defenseman Drew Doughty led all defensemen at 58.94).
Shapiro says whether or not the Stars should keep Goose comes down to what role they seem him filling going forward.
If he's going to play with Klingberg in a top-four role, it's a good fit. But if you're going to relegate Goligoski to a bottom pairing—consider Stephen Johns and Johnny Oduya are solidly entrenched as the second pair—it's probably not worth the cap hit.
