The bad news about tonight's preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars is that we're almost guaranteed that we won't get the comedy of both teams showing up to the same game with only their white road uniforms again.
But the good news. There's so much good news, at least on a preseason scale.
Fans at the American Airlines Center will get to see a relatively complete set of regular-season-projected defensemen, missing just newcomer Dan Hamhuis and the always-full-of-potential Jamie Oleksiak. Esa Lindell, who might not be able to worm his way onto an eight-man rotation just yet, will be in the lineup as well.
Fans who can't make it out to the AAC will get to hear the dulcet tones of the Stars broadcasting crew on The Ticket and over the internet airwaves as they warm up their vocal cords for the regular season. Daryl Reaugh and Craig Ludwig look to be on tap.
And both sets of fans will get to see a very familiar, Art-Ross-Trophy winning presence return to the lineup as Stars captain Jamie Benn is set to make his preseason debut. Benn has missed the first four games of the preseason as well as the World Cup of Hockey while returning from "core muscle" surgery but is scheduled to be in this and one more preseason game to get ready for Oct. 13.
(Also, the news that Tyler Seguin not only has started skating but is starting to ramp up his skating is great news.)
So join us here as we break down the obviously season-affecting game that includes other such stars as Cole Ully, Justin Dowling and Gemel Smith. Hey, it's preseason (and some of those guys may be on your roster in the fairly near future). They can't spoil us with the full offensive juggernaut yet.
