Dallas Stars Captain Jamie Benn has yet to take the ice with his team this preseason. But that’s about to change. Reports from morning skate today included the news that Benn will be in the lineup tonight.

Here are the expected lines and defensive pairings for tonight’s game. The assumption is that most of these guys will get tomorrow off, as the Stars play a back-to-back set before heading to Las Vegas this weekend.

Benn - Faksa - Eaves
Ully - Downing - Ritchie
Roussel - Cracknell - Gurianov
McKenzie - Smith - Stransky

Lindell - Klingberg
Jo. Benn - Johns
Oduya - Nemeth

Antti Niemi is expected to get the start tonight and play the whole game, similar to how Kari Lehtonen in preseason games past. Maxime Lagace is the anticipated backup tonight.

The top line for tonight will be of interest to see, especially if Tyler Seguin cannot play on opening night. Also of interest is that Esa Lindell and John Klingberg pairing. Will this be a glimpse of the defensive pairing of the future? Both Cracknell and Smith get another chance to show the coaching staff what they bring to the bottom six at the center position.

Odds and Ends

*Both defensemen Andrew Bodnarchuk and Dustin Stephenson cleared waivers. They’ve been assigned to the Texas Stars, reducing the Dallas Stars training camp roster to 38.

*Seguin, who is still recovering from his fractured bone in his heel, skated today. The Stars expect him to be ready for opening night if all things go well in his continued recovery.
