A mass shooting in Dallas on July 7th this past summer was one of the most devastating tragedies to affect the city in recent memory. The Dallas Stars were in their offseason, and tonight represents their first “official” night back in front of the home crowd.
To honor the lives of those officers lost that night, the Dallas Stars will each have a sticker of one of the badges of the four DPD officers and one DART officer lost that fateful night in July.
Additionally, the Stars will honor these fallen officers when the families of DPD Sergeant Michael Smith and DART officer Brent Thompson take part in the ceremonial puck drop tonight.
The NHL should be commended for allowing the team to honor these fallen officers in their first official on-ice game since the tragedy. The Dallas Cowboys wanted to honor these officers by wearing a sticker on their helmets in remembrance during their first home game this season. The NFL would not allow it.
