2016 NHL Draft: Dallas Stars Select Rhett Gardner With 116th Pick

The Dallas Stars have selected center Rhett Gardner with the 116th pick of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Gardner currently plays with the University of North Dakota in the NCAA. He’s a hard working and fast forward who comes in at 6’2″, 216lbs.

Gardner became a key part of North Dakota’s run to the Frozen Four and their eventual win. He centered the top line for the Fighting Hawks as they beat Quinnipac 5-1 to win the Frozen Four this year.

In his first season in the NCAA he had 18 points through 41 games. He came to the NCAA through the AJHL playing for the Okotoks Oilers.

Gardner is older than most draft eligible prospects turning 20 on Februrary 28. He’s unranked by all of the draft organisations except from the ISS Hockey who ranked him 134th overall.

This is a pick that is out there and with limited information about him it is hard to make a judgement about this pick.
