The Dallas Stars prospects at the Traverse City Tournament couldn't hold their third period lead against the Detroit Red Wings, losing 5-4.

It had been a back and forth game for the first two periods with neither side able to get a lead and hold it until the end of the period.

Dylan Larkin put the Red Wings ahead early in the first with a powerplay goal, only for Devin Shore to tie it back up late in the first.

It was the same story in the second. Mattias Janmark had an unassisted goal just over halfway through the period only for the Red Wings to tie the game up minutes later.

The third period began very well for the Stars, scoring twice in three minutes with goals from Jason Dickinson and Brett Pollock, putting themselves ahead 4-2. However, much like the Dallas Stars in the NHL last season, their lead came under pressure and they ended up losing the game.

The Red Wings had a three goal rally and won the game in regulation. This means that the Dallas Stars, with their loss on Saturday, aren't able to finish higher than fifth in the overall rankings.

There were some bright spots to the game, despite the third period collapse. Mattias Janmark had three points by the end of the game. He finished with a goal and two assists. He assisted on both of the Dallas Stars third period goals.

Going into the final game of the Traverse City Tournament Janmark leads all Dallas Stars prospects in points.

Both Devin Shore and Radek Faksa had better games on Monday.

Mark Stepneski had a chat with some players after the game and had his own recap which can be seen here. He also put up a video of the first half of the first period which can be viewed here.

Overall the game will obviously be a disappointing one, having worked to get a two goal lead early in the third only for it to vanish and to lose in the second half of the third period.

Pointstreak has the boxscore for the game here. They also have statistics for the entire tournament.

The team's next game is at 2.30pm (CDT) Tuesday, September 15 against the Minnesota Wild. This will be the fifth place game.
