The trade deadline passed Monday afternoon with the usual rush of trades around the league. For Dallas, trade deadline day past quietly and without much fuss.
They were considered sellers at the deadline, sending Erik Cole to the Detroit Red Wings for a pick and a pair of prospects. Apart from that trade the Dallas Stars stayed put. With that said, where do the Dallas Stars stand when it comes to the 2015 NHL Draft? What picks do they have and which rounds are they in?
The table below lists all the picks the Dallas Stars currently have for the 2015 NHL Draft and who they originally belonged to if necessary.
|Picks By Round||Whose?||Acquired How?|
|2nd||Detroit||Acquired in trade that sent Erik Cole to Detroit|
This is the situation currently and with a trade window that opens before the draft the Dallas Stars have the ability to trade for more or use these picks to acquire other assets.
A few notes on a conditional pick that was sent to Detroit and other picks that have been traded to and from Dallas this season:
- Dallas could retain its 2015 third round pick but Detroit would have to reach the Eastern Conference Final and Erik Cole would have to play 50% of their playoff games. This was the condition which the pick was traded to Detroit. This condition has yet to be fulfilled and therefore the pick doesn't appear in this list.
- The trade that sent Brenden Dillon to San Jose brought back Jason Demers and a third round pick. This pick was for the 2016 NHL Draft. Therefore it is not on this list.
- The Dallas Stars own 2016 third round pick was sent with Anders Lindback to the Buffalo Sabres in return for Jhonas Enroth. This was a conditional pick that could become a second round pick in 2016 if the Dallas Stars reached the 2015 playoffs and Enroth won four playoff games. This pick is for 2016 and not on the table above.
