Dallas Stars Assign Six - Including Julius Honka, Radek Faksa and Curtis McKenzie - to AHL

New, comments

The Stars reduced their training camp roster to 26 and seemed to answer the question of where this summer's first round pick will play.

The Dallas Stars made another round of cuts Tuesday as they get closer and closer to the opening night roster.

The latest moves were first announced by Mark Stepneski via Twitter:

This seems to answer the question of where Honka, the Stars first round pick, will play this year. Traditionally players of his age who were drafted from the CHL go back to junior, but because of some IIHF rules, that may not be an option for Honka this year.

Faksa had a strong camp and preseason, but there's not much roster space available with yesterday's signing of Cody Eakin. Expect both him and McKenzie to be among the options for a call up if people get injured. Klingberg is an option on the back end after having missing the beginning of preseason while recovering from hip surgery.

The Stars now have 26 players on the training camp roster and will play a mixed intrasquad scrimmage with the Texas Stars this weekend. That does not include, to our knowledge, Eakin or RFA Brenden Dillon, who is still in the midst of contact negotiations. Notable bubble players left include Travis Morin, Brett Ritchie, Jyrki Jokipakka and Jamie Oleksiak.
