It's that time of year again, where endless speculation and rumors leads to actual rumors connected to players and teams and it becomes almost impossible to separate fact from fiction until an official trade is made or -- more often than not -- not made at all.
We may have such a situation, with rumors swirling that Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas could be headed to the Anaheim Ducks. Here's what's happened so far.
It all started with this:
Robidas a duck? Could it be?
— Marty Turco (@mturco35) March 4, 2014
Which caught my eye, since Turco is tuned into the Stars pretty significantly and doesn't just spout off with random trade rumors on Twitter. That was quickly followed up with:
Lots of chatter out of DAL that Stephane Robidas may be headed to ANA. No official confirmation yet on that, though. #TSN #Tradecentre
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) March 4, 2014
When the Great Bob McKenzie gets involved, ears start to perk up. The trick, though, is that he hasn't confirmed anything from his own sources and could just be commenting on the speculation. Then you get this, from Ducks beat writer Eric Stephens.
Some stuff definitely in the works with #NHLDucks. Am hearing that @TSNBobMcKenzie report of acquiring Stephane Robidas is very possible.

Robidas is a pending UFA who is currently rehabbing from a broken leg, but would be a big boost for any team with playoff hopes and aspirations. One such team, as noted by Dave Lozo, is the Dallas Stars:
You what team doesn't seem to be interested in Stephane Robidas for the stretch run but perhaps should be? The Dallas Stars.
— Dave Lozo (@DaveLozo) March 4, 2014
Even with Robidas a pending UFA, the return would have to be significant to trade him away. He would undoubtedly be a boost for the Stars blue line, a team that has a very legitimate shot at the playoffs and while losing him for nothing would hurt -- so would trading him away just for a mid-round pick.
There's all sorts of action happening with the Ducks this morning, we'll update as soon as more is known.
Update:
Anaheim Ducks are indeed acquiring Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars. ... not official yet though

Update to the Update, which came notably after all the other reports:
Hearing Stephane Robidas to the Ducks is being discusses, but not done yet.

Update to the Updated Update (or something)
I'm hearing Robidas to Ducks for conditional 4th rounder. It becomes a 3rd if they win two rounds and he plays in 50% of playoff games.
