2014 Winter Olympics Watching Thread: Elimination Round

Men's hockey continues with the elimination round today, as USA and Canada await their next opponents on Wednesday.

The game most of us will be keeping an eye on will be the Czech Republic vs Slovakia matchup. The winner of that game will advance to the next round and will be Team USA's next opponent on their way to the medal games.

Zdeno Chara's Slovakia team lost to the Americans 7-1 in their first game of group play. They finished at the bottom of the group with just one point earned in a loss outside of regulation.

Jaromir Jagr and the Czech team finished in second to last in their group with three points earned from one regulation win and two regulation losses.

In other elimination games, keep an eye out for Dallas Stars rookie Valeri Nichushkin and Russia. The Russians have made it clear that anything short of gold will be considered a failure at these games, so the pressure is on for the home team to advance.

The big four - USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland - will resume play tomorrow after their opponents are determined today.
