2014 Winter Olympics Watching Thread: Team USA vs Canada Women's Hockey

New, comments

This should be good.

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning (evening, afternoon.....whatever time zone this finds you in, pick the word that fits!)

On tap in today's Winter Olympics we have what should be one of the best matchups in women's hockey - Team USA vs Team Canada. Both teams have already clinched their spot in the semifinals. But that doesn't mean this match isn't for more than just bragging rights. The winner will get the top seed in the semifinals round.

The teams seem to be evenly matched so far in the Olympics. Here's how they stack up on paper:

Team USA Team Canada
Record 2-0-0-0 2-0-0-0
Goals For 12 8
Goals Against 1 0
Power Play 25.0% 16.7%
Penalty Kill 75.0% 100.0%
Average shots per game 48.0 55.5
Average shots against per game 12.5 14.0
Shorthanded Goals 0 1
Goaltender Save Percentage 0.96 1.00

Kendall Coyne, Hilary Knight, and Amanda Kessel (sister of Toronto Maple Leafs' Phil Kessel) lead Team USA with four points each (2G, 2A).

Oh, and there are some other Olympic games going on that I'm sure we'll all be discussing, including the start of the men's tournament. Drop on in and stay awhile. And if you're making coffee, make sure to brew we Defending Big D writers a cup or two.
