Dallas Stars Roster Analysis: Alex Goligoski, Sergei Gonchar Lead Blueline Scoring Push

Does Alex Goligoki have a "Haters Gonna Hate!" poster in his stall in the locker room? He showed these last two games what he brings to the table when he's on his game.

Ronald Martinez

In this weekly feature, I look at where individuals are trending to in this handy-dandy table format. The analysis of each person is done solely by me and my observations -- sometimes I do it by committee with other writers, but I've got the ultimate say. So if you disagree on any of these, feel free to tell me in the comments! Who doesn't like a good ol' hockey debate?

The week started of kind of bad, and then the Dallas Stars won two games in convincing fashion. How did the individuals play in that span, though?

Jamie BENN
4gp, 1-4-5, +1

Comments: Jamie Benn it's nice to see your dominance back, good sir.

Jordie BENN
3gp, 1-1-2, Even

Comments: Jordie Benn scored a very nice penalty shot goal versus the Minnesota Wild this week.

4gp, 1-0-1, -2

Comments: Alex Chiasson got off the goal-less streak! He's looking like he's back into his normal form after being down with strep and coming back seemingly weaker.

4gp, 1-0-1, Even

Comments: Erik Cole played in his 800th game last night, and it was quite a victory for that milestone. He didn't factor into any of the scoring in either of the two big wins this week.

1gp, 0-0-0, -2

Comments: The Kevin Connauton played only one game this week, and he has been benched since.

Trevor DALEY
4gp, 1-0-1, +1

Comments: Trevor Daley fired a laser last night, and he and partner Alex Goligoski have had very good games in the two wins Dallas has strung together. If they've settled in together as a pair, does that mean this thing is turned around? Hmm...

Brenden DILLON
4gp, 0-0-0, -2

Comments: Brenden Dillon seems to have adjusted his game to Benn's and the pairing looks much improved over the week prior.

4gp, 2-2-4, Even

Comments: Cody Eakin is on a three game point streak. Don't look now, he's had seven points in the last eight games, arguably his hottest streak of the season.

Comments: Dan Ellis didn't play this week, including in a back-to-back set which Kari Lehtonen started both nights of.

4gp, 1-1-2, Even

Comments: Vernon Fiddler had some good penalty killing shifts, but his faceoff percentage these last few games haven't always been at the consistent level as he's usually at.

4gp, 1-0-1, +1

Comments: Ryan Garbutt is going to find himself playing fewer minutes if he keeps taking ill-timed penalties.

4gp, 0-5-5, +2

Comments: Alex Goligoski is ranked in the top 30 in defensemen with 19 assists on the season. Is this the beginning of a late-season hot streak? He seems to really get going down the stretch these last few seasons - maybe that switch has been flipped?

4gp, 0-3-3, +1

Comments: Sergei Gonchar was such an annoyance in last night's game that Nichushkin checked him twice himself.

4gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Shawn Horcoff you CAN do that (score power play goals, that is.)

2gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Dustin Jeffrey cleared waivers, and there is some indication that he may have to be sent down today in order to play in the AHL during the Olympic break based on 100 Degree Hockey and Mike Heika's conversation. With Eakin seemingly expected to go tomorrow, it is possible he gets sent down to Texas soon.

4gp, 2-1-1, 2.00 GAA, .909 SV%

Comments: Kari Lehtonen got his second shutout, kept the Stars in a tight game versus Minnesota, and shut the door on Toronto's push before kicking back and taking it easy with all the goal support he could want. He earned his 200th NHL win last night, too.

2gp, 2-1-3, +2

Comments: Valeri Nichushkin was feeling tired and got a two game mental and physical break. He comes back and gets his first multi-goal game. I think that worked out quite nicely.

4gp, 1-2-3, -1

Comments: Rich Peverley is back to scoring. That shorthanded goal was beautiful.

Stephane ROBIDAS

Comments: Still sending all the good wishes for a speedy recovery to Stephane Robidas. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...slow and steady progress to return.

Aaron ROME
4gp, 0-0-0, +1

Comments: Aaron Rome played four games. In a row!

4gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: Antoine Roussel has an excellent "rage" face. He looked downright MAD last night after extracurriculars were broken up by the refs.

4gp, 0-3-3, -1

Comments: Tyler Seguin continues to put up points but his goal-less streak is extended this week as well. I'm joining in on the seeming trolling the Stars did when Nichushkin scored his first goal (I totally swear it went in off Seguin) and I'm pledging $10/goal to Pensburgh's children's hospital fundraiser. Make sure you put your money on the board for the game versus the Pens tomorrow and raise money for a good cause.

4gp, 1-1-2, -2

Comments: Ray Whitney is on pace to at least match, if not exceed, his point production from the lockout shortened season.
