2014 Traverse City Tournament: Dallas Stars Prospects Move To 2-0 With Win Over Carolina Hurricanes

The Dallas Stars prospects continued their hot start at the 2014 Traverse City Tournament, improving their record to 2-0 with a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.

Gemel Smith and Radek Faksa each recorded a goal and an assist, while Jason Dickinson and undrafted camp invitee Collin Shirley also scored. 2012 5th round draft choice Henri Kiviaho got the start in net and stopped 21 of 23 shots for the win, earning praise for his strong play.

Defenceman Julius Honka had another strong game, collecting an assist on Dickinson’s first period powerplay goal.

A full boxscore can be found here.

The Stars were dealt a blow on the injury front, however, as top prospect Brett Ritchie suffered a finger injury in the first period and left the game. NHL.com’s Mike Morreale is reporting that Ritchie will not be playing for the rest of the tournament.

It’s yet to be known the extent of the injury, and whether or not it will affect Ritchie’s participation in the Stars’ training camp, starting next week.

The Dallas prospects have tomorrow off before playing again on Monday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Here’s some video of Saturday’s game. The first one is of Dickinson’s goal, and the second one is more general footage shot by Mark Stepneski during the first period.
