Dallas Stars Reduce Camp Roster by Four, Send John Klingberg and Troy Vance Home

The cut-downs began Monday as Jim Nill reduced his training camp roster by four and sent John Klingberg back to Frolunda.

Just a bit of house keeping here on what is an off-day for the Dallas Stars as they assign defenseman John Klingberg, Troy Vance and Philippe Desrosiers back to the teams with whom they'll spend the year.

Junior and overseas seasons are starting soon, and some have started already, so these clubs are eager to get their assets back into the fold and the Stars aren't going to need them here anyway.

Preseason game or not, it's still a good experience for all involved as Stars officials and trainers impress upon them a desired direction for the year and areas of opportunity on which to work.

Klinberg and Vance both joined the Texas Stars in the spring upon the conclusions of their seasons and we'll expect they'll both be invited to do the same in 2014, and stick there for the 2014-2015 seasons.

FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the team has reduced the training camp roster by four players.

The following three players have been assigned to their respective clubs:

PLAYER POSITION TEAM ASSIGNED TO ACQUIRED
Philippe Desrosiers Goaltender Rimouski (QMJHL) 2013 NHL Draft (22nd round, 54th overall)
John Klingberg Defenseman Frolunda (Sweden) 2010 NHL Draft (5th round, 131st overall)
Troy Vance Defenseman Charlottetown (QMJHL) 2011 NHL Draft (5th round, 135th overall)

The other part of the release reads that goaltender Josh Robinson has been released from his PTO, meaning that he's not under contract with the Stars, but rather has an AHL contract with Texas. He should be the guy in Idaho for the Steelheads this year, and will be in line for a call up should injuries plague Jack Campbell or Christopher Nilstorp.

The NHL does not have cut-down dates and specific requirements and restrictions on numbers of players throughout preseason as does the NFL. The 23 man roster need only be set by 3pm EST on Septemeber 30th.

The Texas Stars' first preseason game is on Friday, September 27th, and with some semblance of camp before that, the Stars can't hold on to many of these players for much longer.
