Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Majority Of Stars Prospects Clinch Playoff Berths

How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress

With most of the leagues approaching or having finished their regular seasons its starting to get to the point where teams are clinching playoff spots. According to my calculations at least 12 of the 19 Stars prospects in Europe, CHL and NCAA will see post season action while Jyrki Jokipakka will likely see a post season regulation round. Only two have been eliminated from any post season action so far, Emil Molin and Scott Winkler. I've found it difficult to get information on the Junior leagues in Finland so the playoff status of Esa Lindell and Henri Kiviaho is unknown. The same is the case for Ludwig Bystrom after he was reassigned to MODO J20 in Sweden.

In the OHL Radek Faksa had a single goal and two assists through three games. The Kitchener Rangers have secured a playoff spot.

Brett Ritchie had two goals and an assist in two games he played this week. He now has 40 goals in this season. The Niagara IceDogs have also secured a playoff spot and will see action in the post season.

Gemel Smith played three games and had two goals and an assist through those three games. In the first game of the week he was held pointless but had a multi point night on Saturday. Owen Sound Attack have also clinched a place in the OHL playoffs.

Matej Stransky continues to impress in the WHL with a goal and three assists through three games this week for the Saskatoon Blades. Matej Stransky now has 40 goals through the season. The Saskatoon Blades have really impressed turning their season around after a dismal start.

Mike Winther had a single assist through three games this week. His Prince Albert Raiders have also clinched a playoff spot so Winther will see some playoff action this season.

Branden Troock is still out injured and has been limited to 19 games this season. However the Seattle Thunderbirds, due to the nature of the WHLs playoff qualification structure, still have a chance of reaching the post season. Whether he will be back in the lineup is a different matter.

In the QMJHL Troy Vance played three games and didn't register a point. Maxime Lagace did not play in a single game for the Prince Edward Island Rocket. P.E.I has also clinched a playoff spot.

In Sweden John Klingberg had a single assist in Skelleftea's final game of the season. They finished on top of the Elitserie. As the top team in the Elitserie its possible they will go quite far in their playoffs.

Ludwig Bystrom has been assigned to MODO's junior team, MODO J20 after finishing the regular season in the Allsvenska. In the last four games he has gone pointless.

Emil Molin is not playing anywhere and has not been reassigned to Brynas after Mora were eliminated from the promotion race. Its been rumoured in the Swedish press, in particular by a blogger with Aftonbladet, that Emil Molin will be one of three players for Brynas who will be going to North America next season after their loans expire. This is still only a rumour.

Jyrki Jokipakka played in three games this week, each one of which Ilves won, but he had no points during that time. He left the game in the second period on Saturday after sustaining a mild upper body injury. Hopefully it won't keep him out at all or for long.

In the NCAA Curtis McKenzie, Alex Guptill, Devin Shore and Dmitry Sinitsyn's teams will be in the NCAA playoffs. Colorado College did not make the playoffs.

Alex Guptill had a good week with a goal and two assists through two games. Devin Shore had a goal and an assist in two games. Scott Winkler had a single assist through two games. Curtis McKenzie's team didn't play this week. Dmitry Sinitsyn has not played for U-Mass Lowell.
