Dallas Stars Morning Skate: Ray Whitney Still Out, Alex Chiasson OK

New, comments

Indications are that Ray Whitney will probably miss another contest tonight (lower body).

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Already without one of their top-six forwards in Ray Whitney (lower body), the Dallas Stars nearly lost another when Alex Chiasson was struck in the face at practice yesterday, but it appears as though he'll power through with some extra protection.

From morning skate...

The other minor news item of the day is that Lane MacDermid cleared waivers. He does not need to be assigned as long as Ray Whitney remains on IR.

Lindy Ruff indicated after skate that Chiasson's just a little sore and that there's nothing "concerning."

From the media styling of Heika and Stepenski we get lines from morning skate:

Benn-Seguin-Nichushkin
Cole-Eakin-Chiasson
Roussel-Fiddler-Peverley
Jeffrey-Horcoff-Garbutt

With Chiasson in that allows Fiddler to go back to 3C and it puts Dustin Jeffrey on a line with Shawn Horcoff and Ryan Garbutt, and it's tough to know what to expect there. So we'll keep an eye on that line's ice time as a curiosity.

In their previous home game Lindy Ruff chose in the early going to match the Eakin line up with the Jonathan Toews line, for the purposes of... freeing the Jamie Benn trio? It's hard to know. How he deploys against the Richards/Nash duo will be of great interest tonight. The Rangers are not a team you want to trail and then rearrange things.

Defense pairings:

Dillon-Robidas
Goligoski-Daley
Benn-Gonchar

Kari Lehtonen is on track to start in net and the Stars' next back-to-back set is with Colorado and... Colorado on December 16th and 17th. Will Dan Ellis wait that long to get back in?

Lindy Ruff plays coy about MacDermid, then starts laughing because everyone knows he cleared...
