The Stars made some moves this morning reassigning Aaron Rome to the Texas Stars of the AHL. They also claimed forward Dustin Jeffrey from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dustin Jeffrey has played ten games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this year and has a single assist during that time. He's been a big scorer in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (the Penguins AHL affiliate). He was over a point per game in the AHL between 2009-2011.
Is this just a move to shore up the forward unit or do the Stars have other plans in motion at the moment? There have been question marks over Vernon Fiddler's future with the Dallas Stars in the last few weeks.
Update Note: By claiming him on waivers Dustin Jeffrey must be assigned to the Dallas Stars roster.
Heres the Stars Press Release for both moves:
Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has claimed forward Dustin Jeffrey off waivers. The team also announced that it has reassigned defenseman Aaron Rome to the Texas Stars, Dallas' development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Jeffrey, 25, has skated in 10 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, earning one assist and nine shots. The Sarnia, Ont. native has played six seasons in the Penguins' system, including 100 career NHL games where he has earned 28 points (15-13=28). The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward was Pittsburgh's sixth-round selection (171st overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft.
Rome, 30, was recalled from Texas on November 8 and did not appear in any NHL contests. The Nesbitt, Man. native has skated in eight games for Texas this season, registering one assist and a plus-1 rating. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound defenseman was Los Angeles' fourth-round selection (104th overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft and was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2012.
