Dallas Stars Ups & Downs - Week 18

Another week has gone by, and we're back to see how the team is trending. All stats for this week's Ups & Downs are based on the four games preceding last night - the win against Columbus, the shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres, and the losses to Detroit and Los Angeles. This week's ratings after the jump. Agree or disagree on any? Let's talk about it in the comments.

Comments: Bachman didn't see any action this week, even though it appeared he would play on the second night of the back-to-back set the Stars played. He was slated to start against the Buffalo Sabres when Kari Lehtonen was feeling under the weather, but Lehtonen was good to go and got the nod in net instead.

Jamie BENN

Comments: Jamie Benn takes a step forward in assuming a leadership role this week taking responsibility for goals against on mistakes he feels he made. Scored his first empty net goal as well.

Comments: Scored the lone goal for Dallas in a losing effort to the Detroit Red Wings.

Trevor DALEY
4gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: His pointless streak extends to 16 games, but has been played very good defense. Joining the rush in the offensive zone, and helping to create space when he has the puck, it would still be nice if he could get on the points sheet as he's part of one of the powerplay units.

2gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: He's part of the rotating winger spot on the fourth line of Adam Burish and Tom Wandell. Not playing well enough to be in the lineup consistently, but also not playing himself out of ice time.

4gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Still looking for a goal since the last one scored on December 1, 2011. Still doing a pretty decent job on the penalty kill minutes he's getting.

4gp, 1-3-4, +1

Comments: Offensive threat Loui Eriksson is back in business on the scoresheet. His play off of the puck is among the best on the team, he's probably the most well-rounded two-way player the Stars have.

4gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Another solid week from Vernon Fiddler, as he continues to eat up penalty kill minutes. Faceoffs improved a bit this week on average over last week.

3gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: He knows the art of the hip check. He's old school like that. Solid defense paired with Philip Larsen these past couple of games.

4gp, 1-4-5, +1

Comments: Signs a contract extension and then lights things up offensively. A sign of things to come?

4gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Still having trouble with some turnovers, but then again so are a lot of Stars this week. Playing a good 16-18 minutes a night and not doing too badly paired up with Trevor Daley, who likes to join the rush. They compliment each other most of the time.

4gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Showed some nice fight back when some players in Buffalo tried to take advantage of his small stature. Is it just me or does he seem less easy to bump off the puck than at the start of the season?

4gp, 1-2-1, .897 SV%, 10 GA

Comments: Continues to bring his beginning of the season form every night for the Stars. Had one rough game in Los Angeles where he posted a .800 SV%, but was .900+ in the other three games. Needs some scoring in front of him to help win games, as he can't make every stop every time (even if he thinks he should and beats himself up after losses like he did this week.)

Brenden MORROW
2 gp, 0-0-0, -2

Comments: Neck and upper body injuries will keep the captain out for an unknown length of time. Get well soon, Captain.

4gp, 0-0-0 Even

Comments: Played up in the top lines at times this week with Gulutzan trying to fill Brenden Morrow's spot next to Mike Ribeiro. Was recently reunited with his buddies Fiddler and Dvorak on the third line. Still playing a good physical game, just not seeing the puck hit the net to reward his efforts.

Steve OTT
4gp, 0-2-2, +1

Comments: Took that "Pesky Stars" mantra maybe a step too far with his two penalties against the Red Wings. Had good games against Columbus and Buffalo to help balance that out, however.

Comments: Still not getting any ice time with Dallas this month. With Sheldon Souray the only one scratched for injury on defense, Mark Fistric is getting the nod over Fistric for playing time.

2gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Rotating out of the fourth line with Dowell, similarly not playing himself out of the lineup consistently nor in the lineup consistently. Plays limited time when he does get the start.

4gp, 0-3-0, +1

Comments: Still managing to notch assists with regular winger Brenden Morrow out of the lineup, his faceoff percentages were actually pretty decent in the last two games of the last week too. Somehow managed a 10 minute misconduct for saying something the refs didn't like in Detroit. Considering the Stars had finally built some momentum right before he took that penalty, that and the third and last goal scored for the night by Detroit bookended a frustrating night for Ribs. Joined twitter this week and that's been comedy gold.

Stephane ROBIDAS
4gp, 1-1-2, +3

Comments: Recorded the game winning goal for Dallas in their one win against the Columbus Blue Jackets this week.

Michael RYDER
4gp, 2-1-3, +2

Comments: In the one win this week, Michael Ryder recorded five shots on goal. In the overtime loss, he recorded three shots on goal. In the two regulation losses he recorded two or less shots. Not conicidentally, the Stars had trouble offensively this week. I don't think anyone on the team has more wide open net opportunities that have been misses as Ryder has had.

Sheldon SOURAY
4gp, 0-0-0, +1

Comments: Has missed several games with a foot injury. It's unknown when the big booming shot from the point will be back in the lineup and healthy.

2gp, 1-1-2, Even

Comments: Notched his second goal of the season and an assist in his increase in ice time here recently. Would like to see more scoring out of the young guy, but that may apply to the team as a whole right now.

4gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Doing what is asked of him in the fourth line role, and playing up when needed.
