Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Stars Prospects Continue To Impress

How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress.

Jamie Sabau

It's going to be a shorter prospect update this week as both the Elitserien and SM-Liiga have taken the week off. That means its only North American prospects playing this week.

Brett Ritchie continued his hot streak from last week as he now has at least a goal in the last 5 games for the Niagara Icedogs. By all accounts he also performed well during the Subway series game this week. He finished the week with three points in two games, two goals and an assist.

Radek Faksa didn't register a point this week and was not part of the OHL team for the subway series. Though he has put up a reasonable number of points I personally hope he starts racking up the points soon. Theres still a lot of the season to go though. He missed Sunday's game due to illness. More on that later this week.

Gemel Smith has had a good couple of games coming off the back of his excellent play last week. Despite going pointless in the first of his three games this week he scored three points in the next two games; two goals and an assist. Gemel Smith appears to be living up to the prediction that he could be one of the top scorers in the OHL this season.

Matej Stransky had an excellent first game to the week with two assists but went pointless in the Saskatoon's game on Saturday. The Saskatoon Blades are no longer at the bottom of the WHL but still have a 8-10-1 record which is not fantastic for a team who is going to compete in the Memorial Cup Tournament.

Mike Winther also had an excellent start to the week for the Prince Albert Raiders with 5 points in his first two games (three goals and two assists) and he earned third star honours in their game against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Fellow Dallas Stars prospect Branden Troock should have played in that game for Seattle but is still out from an upper body injury.

Troy Vance had a pretty good week in the QMJHL as he scored three points (one goal, two assists) in the Tigres two games this week. His team managed to pull a surprise win against the surging Halifax Mooseheads, a game in which Troy Vance got an assist.

In the NCAA Scott Winkler has been reasonable impressive with four points in two games this week for Colorado College. He scored two goals and two assists over two games. Alex Guptill had two assists in two games, Curtis McKenzie had a single goal in two games and Devin Shore scored two points in two games, a goal and an assist. Dmitry Sinitsyn played a single game and has still to register a point.
