Dallas Stars Ups & Downs: Week 14

New, comments

Another three games in the books this week as the Dallas Stars reverse their last few weeks' of trends and flip their record to 2-1. The Stars also got some of their defensemen healthy again in the past week, but then lost their second line center with an MCL tear. This week's ups & downs after the jump. Agree or disagree on any? Let's talk about it in the comments.

1gp, .962 SV%, 1 win

Comments: When Kari Lehtonen was down with the sickness the day of his scheduled start against the Edmonton Oilers, Bachman was informed he would be getting the start in net instead. Bachman was solid, letting in only one goal that took a funny bounce over his head. Came up big and got the win when called upon, which is exactly what you want from your backup.

Jamie BENN
3gp, 3-2-5, +3

Comments: Jamie Benn has activated beast mode. Averaging a point per game for the entire season, he's on pace for a record year in points. He's playing on a whole other level these days.

3 gp, 1-1-2, +1

Comments: Burish has been absolutely buzzing every time he's been on the ice over the past week. He recorded points in two of the three games he played and has had some good looks on the ice lately.

Trevor DALEY
3gp, 0-1-1, +6

Comments: Did not end up with a goal this past week, but his plus/minus is amazing. Has been playing good two-way hockey this past week, and it shows in that people are creating scoring chances when he's on the ice.

2gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Hasn't really showed up much on either the scoresheet or getting scored on much. Has been alternating time on the fourth line with Tobey Petersen.

3gp, 0-0-0, -3

Comments: Wonder if the entire third line is suffering from the flu thanks to Eric Nystrom. Haven't found the scoresheet in the past week and a half, and have had some defensive lapses leading to goals against. On the bright side, the penalty kill over the past week or so has been doing well, and Dvorak is one of the key guys to that success.

3gp, 0-5-5, +3

Comments: Where did all those assists come from? Eriksson was split up from Jamie Benn this week and played on a line with Ribeiro and Morrow. The change in linemates didn't seem to slow Eriksson down any.

3gp, 0-0-0, -4

Comments: Defensive matchups continue to impact the third line, and Fiddler has not escaped having some goals scored against him either. As with Dvorak, is a key reason the penalty kill has looked decent. Some timely depth scoring could have been the difference in that game against Anaheim last night, but this trio continues to struggle to find the scoresheet recently.

Comments: Same stat line as last week, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. While it would be nice for Fistric to get on the scoresheet with his first point of the season, he's been playing good shutdown hockey over these past two weeks.

3gp, 0-2-2, -4

Comments: Scored a goal to knot things at two versus Anaheim before the team chalked up that game to a loss. The scoring is nice, and hopefully will start coming more consistently for the puck-moving defensemen.

3gp, 0-2-2, +4

Comments: Paired with Trevor Daley consistently over the past week, Grossman has notched 40% of his points on the season in these past three games. Starting to shoot more to create those rebound chances for guys in front of the goaltender.

Comments: Officially went on IR this week and has now missed the last four games.

2gp, 1-1-0, .90 SV%, 5 GA

Comments: After a rock solid outing against the Nashville Predators, had a bit of a rough go in Anaheim last night. Also missed his start versus Edmonton with the flu (it's going around it seems.) Caught a bad break on one of those goals that should have been an icing call, but there's a reason coaches say to play til the whistle.

Brenden MORROW
3 gp, 0-2-2, +5

Comments: While he hasn't been scoring goals this week, his plus/minus has been fantastic. He has been creating chances and getting looks, doing so with new linemates Loui Eriksson and Tom Wandell (after Ribeiro missed a game due to his MCL tear.)

3gp, 0-0-0, -4

Comments: His line has struggled defensively, and he hasn't found the scoresheet in a while. Has had the flu recently and you have to wonder if this line's struggles are due to fighting through illness night in and night out this past week.

Steve OTT
3gp, 1-1-2, +1

Comments: Scored his first goal after going goal-less in the past six games. After an abysmal 33.3 faceoff percentage against the Nashville Predators, managed an AMAZING 100% FO% against Edmonton and 93.3% FO% versus Anaheim. Continues to be the best faceoff guy for the Dallas Stars.

3gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Has seen time paired with different guys over the past few games with injuries on the blueline. Has had some defensive breaks in coverage, but has also had some good blocked shots and plays to keep the puck in the offensive zone as well.

Comments: With injuries to Ribeiro and Vincour, Petersen still hasn't been able to get consistent ice time. Gulutzan has opted to double-shift guys like Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson and dress seven defensemen at times, which is also contributing to why he hasn't been in the lineup.

2gp, 4-0-0, +4

Comments: Tore his MCL in the Edmonton Oilers game after a knee-on-knee hit with Theo Peckham, slaps a brace on and scores two goals. Was playing like a man possessed before being held out due to that injury in the game against Anaheim. Is not expected to play against Los Angeles either this week. Will this set him back, or will he come out with a strong showing like he did right after the injury when he returns?

Stephane ROBIDAS
3gp, 0-0-0, -3

Comments: Returned from injury, and has been Stephane Robidas. Not necessarily noticeable or unnoticeable, just going about being the rock solid defensemen Stars fans are accustomed to.

Michael RYDER
3gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: After an outburst of scoring goals, Ryder hasn't scored one in the past three games. May be the most affected with Loui Eriksson playing on a different line now.

Sheldon SOURAY
1gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Returned from his sprained ankle and was eased back into things when the Stars dressed seven D last night. Took one of his signature minor penalties as well. Safe to say he's back.

0gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Still out with an MCL sprain. Given Ribeiro has something similar and was able to continue playing on it, Vincour's is probably a worse tear than Ribeiro's is.

3gp, 1-2-3, +2

Comments: Had a career-high four game points streak entering last night's contest with Anaheim. While that streak was snapped, lead the team with 4 shots on goal last night in the loss while playing bigger minutes on the second line. Managed a 63.3% faceoff percentage last night while filling in the center role on the Morrow-Eriksson line.
