With their final pick of the 2011 Draft, the Dallas Stars stay with the theme of drafting fairly big, physical players as they take Finnish defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka. It could be said that this maybe a genuine steal Jokipakka has good size at 6'3" and 195 with still some time to grow. He spent the past season in Finland's top hockey league with Ilves of SM-liiga where his game and talent really started to develop.
The scouting report on Jyrki is that he is indeed a good physical presence on the blue line who can eat up a lot of ice time minutes if needed. He has decent ice vision and again we're seeing the phrase "skates well for a man his size" defining his speed and agility.
He had a coming out party of sorts at this past winter's World Junior Championships where he had a goal and two assists and went a +5 in nine games with Team Finland.
Dansallows.com has a quick interview with him just recently that you can find here.
