We're rolling out a special feature this summer here at Defending Big D: Dallas Stars Play Of The Year. We want to put it to the Stars fans and the readers of DBD to determine just which play was truly the most exciting, the most game-changing of the season.
We're going to break it down by month, picking a winner for October, November, December, etc before having a vote among all the winners for each month. We'll present a video highlight of each play and you -- the readers --- will vote on the winner.
I've gone through and picked which plays for each month I feel are the best; these could be goals, hits or saves. Logically, we'll start with October.
Interesting notes I've made while browsing the highlight archives: Kari Lehtonen does not make many "highlight reel" saves; he plays a much cleaner, position-oriented game and just doesn't have the need for the insanely acrobatic saves we've seen in the past. He does have some gems later in the season, however.
Also, I counted six turnovers in October alone by Matt Niskanen that directly led to either a breakaway or a 2 on 1 the other way. Awesome stuff.
On with voting!! Videos are after the jump. As always, feel free to debate the selections in the comment section. If you find a big play I might have overlooked, link to that one and I'll add it to the list.
