Dallas Stars Ups & Downs: Week 12

The Dallas Stars continued their stretch of home games with a loss against the Philadelphia Flyers and a bounce back win against the Nashville Predators before the holiday break. Upon returning from the break, the Stars then traveled to the St. Louis to take on the surprising Blues in their own barn. The Stars went 1-2 over the past week, and this week's Ups & Downs will focus on each player during those three games.

3gp, 1-1-0, .89 SV%, pulled after 2 in St. Louis

Comments: Had a bit of a rough stretch this past week, with a loss against the Philadelphia Flyers, a win against the Nashville Predators and then getting pulled for the third period against the St. Louis Blues. Also has started the past 8 straight games, and seems to have made a solid enough case to remain as the backup to Kari Lehtonen.

Jamie BENN
3gp, 1-3-4, +3

Comments: Seems to have broken the scoring slump, averaging over a point per game consistently over the past two weeks now.

3 gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Has 12 PIMs in 3 games. Pesky.

Trevor DALEY
3gp, 0-2-2, -1

Comments: Struggled in the Blues game, going -2 on the night. Had a stellar game against the Predators.

1gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Has been finding himself more often than not as the extra forward, and can't seem to crack the lineup on a consistent basis.

3gp, 0-2-2, +1

Comments: One of the Stars' leading penalty killing forwards has struggled with the PK woes of the team over the past week.

3gp, 1-2-3, +2

Comments: Seems to have busted his scoring slump as well, and is more often on the plus side lately, which is more characteristic of Eriksson's play. Had some uncharacteristic turnovers in the Blues game.

3gp, 1-1-2, +1

Comments: The Stars' penalty kill hasn't been very good of late, and Fiddler leeads the team in shorthanded time on ice. Still finding a way to contribute at even strength on the scoresheet, however.

3gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Paired with Adam Pardy, had probably one of his most solid defensive games against the Blues on Monday. Faired well in +/- given the number of goals the Stars allowed during the last three game span.

3gp, 0-1-1, +4

Comments: By far the Stars' best defensemen over the past three games, finished with an impressive +4 last week. As quarterback of the Stars' first powerplay unit, some powerplay points would help to turn things in the right direction for this side of the special teams.

3gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Stepped up to cover some big minutes with defensemen Sheldon Souray and Stephane Robidas out against the Blues. Did okay with the bigger minutes, but had some issues with keeping the puck in the zone when he was on the powerplay unit a few times.

3gp, 0-0-0, +5

Comments: An impressive +5 over a span that saw the Stars lose 2 of 3.

Comments: Lehtonen went through a full practice, and with news coming down that Raycroft is going on waivers, it is presumed that he will be starting on Thursday night for the Stars. It will be his first start in 12 games.

Brenden MORROW
3 gp, 0-1-1, +2

Comments: Has cooled off offensively some over the past week, but showed how pesky he can be when he took 12 minutes of penalties versus the Flyers.

3gp, 1-0-1, +1

Comments: Bested his personal career high in goals when he scored his 12th goal of the season versus the Blues.

Steve OTT
3gp, 1-2-3, +2

Comments: A point per game average and still averaging over 50% in the faceoff dot. Not too shabby from the resident pepper pot, who also tacked on a 5 minute major at the end of the Blues game for good measure.

3gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Had what many thought was his best defensive game against the Blues, and the communication between him and D partner Mark Fistric seems to be improving. Not too many times where he and Fistric ended up in the same place on defensive coverage, so things seem to be trending in the right direction for Pardy.

1gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: With guys getting healthy, Petersen did not get any starts as help on the powerplay took him out of the fourth line rotation. Was brought into the Blues game for help on the powerplay, and the powerplay didn't connect.

Comments: Will be placed on waivers with Richard Bachman expected to be Kari Lehtonen's backup in Dallas. Unsure where Raycroft's career with the Stars will go from here.

3gp, 2-1-3, Even

Comments: Ribeiro is starting to be a little more selfish with the puck and is scoring goals because of it. It's a trend that is going in the right direction.

Stephane ROBIDAS

Comments: While not officially on IR as of yet, Robidas has missed the past 3 games with an injury and isn't even on the ice. How long he will be out is unknown, but the Stars definitely missed his defensive ability this past week.

Michael RYDER
3gp, 3-2-5, +2

Comments: Ryder is on an absolute tear, scoring at almost a 2-points-per-game pace over the past week.

Sheldon SOURAY
2gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: Found the scoresheet once more, and then missed a game with an injury. Not known how long he'll be out, but his presence from the powerplay unit was definitely missed against the Blues Monday night.

0gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Still out with an MCL sprain. Once healthy, it will be interesting to see if the Stars roll with 8 D on their roster and send Vincour down, or if Vincour stays with the big club for some added scoring threat depth.

3gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Had two terrible turnovers in the game against the Blues, and didn't wow in either of the other two games. May he have played himself out of the lineup with his play of late?
