Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Jack Campbell Heating Up

A bit of an abridged prospect update this week. I'll have full stats for all the prospects after the jump but I want to highlight a few players first. Generally I'm going to have a more detailed analysis of some of the top prospects in the system but with the season still young we're still trying to build up some background before diving too deeply into their progress.

Jack Campbell, G - Windsor Spitfires - Campbell had a very rocky season last year with Windsor, improving as the year wore on but failing in spectacular fashion in the postseason. This year, playing in seven games so far, Campbell is off to a fantastic start -- 6-0-1 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a sparkling .930 save percentage. Campbell is showing improvement every time he takes the ice and this summer showed to be focused on forcing his way to the NHL much faster than anticipated.

Matyej Stransky, RW - Saskatoon Blades - Stransky was a late round pick by the Stars and seems to be a forgotten prospect, but he had a very good camp and tournament in Traverse City and after a bit of a struggle last season, he's tearing up the ice in Saskatoon. Leading his team with five goals and nine points through nine games, the Stars might be looking at another "diamond" found in the later rounds of the draft.

More after the jump.

Emil Molin, C, Brynas (J20 - Sweden) - Molin was drafted in the 4th round this past summer as an undersized, playmaking center who some compared to a Mike Ribeiro - type player. Moving up to the J-20 team in Sweden, Molin continues to be an offensive force with 4 goals and nine points through eight games. The Stars are lacking a few true playmakers at the center position in the system, so it's good to see Molin on the right track in that regard. He also has 35 PIM in that span as well, something that's fairly interesting for a player of his size.

Alex Chiasson, RW - Boston University -  Chiasson continues to be a bright light for the group of prospects the Stars have in the NCAA. Now a leader on his BU team, Chiasson has two goals and four points through three games, a great sign for the big winger who is approaching the time to make the jump from college to the pros.

Reilly Smith, RW - Miami University - Smith broke some team rules and was held out of the first few games of the season. In just two games since returning, he leads the team with four goals and five points, and is right back in contention for the Hobey Baker.
