Dallas Stars defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 at American Airlines Center.
For many of our friends around Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas the Saturday night broadcasts on TXA-21 present a challenge, as they're often unavailable outside the immediacy of DFW. The Stars web site is breaking down every contest into six minute recaps that are more comprehensive than the usual NHL.com replay packages, which are quite extensive themselves.
Included here is bits of a crucial stretch in the second period when the Stars trailed 2-1 and put themselves on the penalty kill repeatedly. The game could have easily swung 3-1 in Columbus' favor but the Stars special teams unit did the trick and emerged with a solid 4-2 victory.
You'll notice in this video Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro taking leadership positions after the final horn, congratulating every teammate after the win, but what you don't see is that Sheldon Souray was the first Star to Kari Lehtonen after the game and he was the last Star off the ice, staying to congratulate every single player as they made their way off the ice. Little things like that are nice to see, and if he can stay out of the penalty box and continue to initiate offense like he has, he'll be one of the best steals of the off-season league-wide.
We're nursing our Texas Rangers related hangovers and feasting on some football, as the Stars (who are off today) are no doubt doing as well. We'll be back with a strong week starting tomorrow as the Dallas goes on a four game road swing.
