TXA 21 is New Dallas Stars "Over-The-Air" Broadcast Home

The Stars have ended their long relationship with My27 (KDFI) and will instead have their "over the air" broadcasts air on KTXA 21. Broadcasts will include pre and post game shows, and will mostly be on the weekends.

It's a 4  year deal that will expire at the conclusion of the 2013-2014 season, which (not) coincidentally is when the Stars current deal with Fox Sports Southwest expires.

Mike Heika smartly points out that this could help with the FSN congestion on the weekends which last year caused several Stars games to be pushed to a FSN+ channel, which some of us were unable to watch. (Thanks, Verizon FiOS...) Last season the Stars broadcast 81 of 82 games. The number for next year is unknown at this point. The full tv schedule usually comes out sometime in August.

All 15 of these games will be in HD, which, in 2010, shouldn't need saying but for some reason ($$$) it still does where the Stars are concerned.

Here is the full release...

Dallas/Fort Worth - TXA 21 has entered into a four-year contract with the Dallas Stars to broadcast 15 regular season games per season, plus select playoff games, beginning with the 2010-11 season. All of the telecasts will be in high-definition.

Dallas Stars broadcasts will air primarily on Saturday nights on TXA 21 and will include 30-minute pre and post-game coverage. The games to be aired on TXA 21 for 2010-11 will be announced at a later date.

"The Stars are a terrific addition to TXA 21's sports lineup," said CBS 11 and TXA 21 President and General Manager Gary Schneider. "They brought the thrill of a Stanley Cup to North Texas and play an exciting brand of hockey. We're looking forward to bringing that excitement to the fans and viewers with Saturday Night Stars games."

"The Stars are excited to enter into this agreement with TXA 21," commented team President Jeff Cogen. "It is very important for us to maintain a strong over-the-air television presence for our fans and TXA 21 is the preeminent sports carrier in our market."

Forming the broadcast team for the Stars for the 15th consecutive season will be Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh. Strangis begins his 21st season as a Stars broadcaster while Reaugh will serve in his 15th season as the Stars' color analyst.
