Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News passes on a note today from morning skate that Mark Fistric will be out of the lineup tonight in order to give D Jeff Woywitka a chance to see his first game action of the season. There is presumably nothing wrong with Mark Fistric's health or availability tonight.
We spent some time last night on Defending Big D Live talking to Mr. Heika about Mark Fistric and we all seemed to be of the mind that Mark Fistric could be in line for a minutes increase; Not a healthy scratch. His +27 led the team last year and he seems primed for an increased role as the season goes on.
Not yet, apparently. Fistric's lack of special teams TOI (0:48 SHTOI/G, no PP time) hurts him here. Niskanen is unlikely to be scratched because of his involvement on the power play (and the fact that he's a right shot). Trevor Daley has played the second most SHTOI (PK minutes) on the team and Marc Crawford would probably miss him there. This leaves Mark Fistric as the odd-man out if Jeff Woywitka is to get a look.
Woywitka will play with Trevor Daley at even strength tonight.
Krys Barch is in and Brian Sutherby is out on the fourth line. (Barch-Wandell-Petersen).
Who would you sit to get Woywitka a look given the allotment of special teams ice time? Is this the only way?
