Dallas Stars Recall Aaron Gagnon; Could Play Monday

New, comments

The Dallas Stars announced this morning that Fabian Brunnstrom has officially been assigned to the Texas Stars of the AHL. To fill the vacant roster spot, the Stars have recalled Aaron Gagnon who has carried over his fantastic training camp into the regular season with Texas.

According to Mike Heika, the Stars are listing Jamie Benn as "doubtful" for Monday's game in Tampa Bay. While Benn says he feels good and ready to go, the Stars aren't going to take any chances with a concussion and he won't play in a game until he has been at 100% for more than just a day. As such, it's very likely that Gagnon plays on Monday and likely takes Krys Barch's spot in the lineup.

It will be interesting to see where Crawford puts Gagnon and if he puts him back in Jamie Benn's spot on the third line. That would reunite the fourth line of Sutherby, Petersen and Segal and replace the playmaking ability that's been lost with Benn out of the lineup.

With Benn out, the Stars have used Steve Ott and Tom Wandell as center on the third line but it's been obvious that the line just hasn't had the same punch without Benn. Watching the game in person yesterday, it was also painfully obvious that Wandell is still recovering from his knee injury from last season and has yet to regain the burst he had on the third line in the past.

If Gagnon does fill in as center on the third line, that returns Ott and Wandell to the wings and puts them with a player who has similar playmaking abilities to Benn.

Of course, Crawford could go in a completely different route and this whole conversation is moot.
