Defending Big D News Update

Faithful readers, new members and random visitors:

This has been a big, big month for Defending Big D. Our one year anniversary passed fairly quietly, but I cannot even begin to express how much this community has grown in such a short time. This is a continuously growing group of close-knit hockey and Stars fans, where we live to support each other and our favorite team.

The Haiti fundrasier was a massive success, and think we all learned just how fun game day threads truly are (just witness last night's thread).

As we move forward into the Olympic break and beyond, I wanted to share some website news and update everyone on others. Follow the jump for more:

New NHL Video Player

SB Nation launched a new phase of our collaboration with today, as Defending Big D and all hockey sites on the network now feature an integrated video player on the right sidebar. This feature Dallas Stars game highlights, NHL plays of the week and other features, as well as hockey shows and features. The new player should operate seamlessly with the website, but if you have any problems please email support (at) sbnation dot com.

Defending Big D Watching Party

As we mentioned last night, we're planning our first ever Stars watching party for Tuesday, March 23. Right now, we're aiming at having the party at Frankie's in Lewisville. Please let me know if anyone has a better location idea, but that's what we're going with for now. Once we have finalized plans, then we'll start nailing down the specifics of the party.

If you are planning on attending, please let me know in the comments area so I can get a rough head count for planning purposes.

Defending Big D LIVE

There will be no podcast this week, but we will return strong as ever next Wednesday night. I know everyone will be disappointed and it's flattering that it's become as popular as it has, but the DBD crew need to take a break every now and then. No promises, but we may have a pretty special guest next week.

2010 NHL Entry Draft Travel Fundraiser

I want to give everyone a heads up that we're going to be starting our Draft fundraiser here soon. I hate asking for money from anyone, especially in this economy, but traveling to the NHL draft this year is going to be much tougher than it was last year.

The 2010 NHL Entry Draft will be held in Los Angeles, and I'm attending no matter what. Not going to lie, this is a job that requires an incredible amount of hours of work and it's a labor of love. If anyone can help out at all, I'd appreciate it. The fundraiser will last until early May. No one is required to donate, there is no set goal we're trying to reach. Just a helping hand.

LOST Recap & Discussion Threads

It has come to my attention that a good number of us here are LOST fans. With the show starting it's final season next week, I thought it would be incredible entertaining to start a discussion with other Stars and LOST fans about each episode. We'll have thread up immediately following each show, where we can all gather and chat ourselves into nerdy comas.

This will all be in the FanPosts, by the way.

Finally, if anyone has any suggestions for the site or anything you'd like to see us do differently or better... let us know. I'm open to constructive criticism and helpful tips.
