Team USA Headed to 2010 Winter Olympics Without Mike Modano

New, comments

Team USA announced it's Olympic roster this afternoon after the 2010 Winter Classic, and as expected Brian Burke has decided to go with a younger team that we've seen in past years. Mike Modano joins the likes of Scott GomezKeith Tkachuk and Bill Guerin as veteran American players not headed to Vancouver.

Obviously, as Stars fans, we're a bit biased. Yet still you have to believe that Mike Modano would provide some much needed experience and leadership on a Team USA squad that is talented but extremely raw when it comes to international play. Comparing the American team to the Olympic favorites like Canada and Sweden, you see a roster that will be questioned whether they can handle the physicality and speed of the best teams in Vancouver. There's no doubt that the USA has a talented team, but one that is young and inexperienced. It's going to be an uphill battle, but the potential is there for success. It's just a matter of a group of young individuals being able to gel as a team in a very short amount of time.

Full roster after the jump.
