Gameday preview: Anaheim Ducks @ Dallas Stars (2:00p CST)

Note: normally I write up my own game preview but I can barely muster the strength right now click the mouse. So for today we'll look at excerpts from other game previews on the web.

From Andrew's Dallas Stars Page:

The Stars lost their third straight game, falling 3-1 to the St. Louis Blues Thursday night at American Airlines Center. The Stars lost despite a 42-22 shots advantage in the game.

"We had a lot of chances that we have to bury. We hit a lot of posts and it's frustrating for sure," said center Mike Ribeiro. "We have some guys with opportunities to play and the work ethic is there, we just need to capitalize on the chances."

The Stars have scored just two goals during their three-game losing streak.

Injuries: Joel Lundqvist (flu) is questionable. RW Landon Wilson (ribs), C Toby Petersen (foot), C Brad Richards (wrist), LW Brenden Morrow (knee) and D Sergei Zubov (hip) are out.

Another win will be in store for the Stars if the Ducks perform the way they did Thursday. They lost 6-0 in Boston for their worst shutout defeat since Nov. 21, 2001, when they fell at Florida by the same score.

Anaheim outshot the Bruins 35-27, but Jean-Sebastien Giguere was pulled early in the second period after allowing three goals on the first eight shots he faced.

"It found a way to turn in their favor in a hurry and we didn't respond well to adversity," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle, whose club failed to win a third straight game and fell to 2-2-0 on its season-high six-game road trip.

Giguere was also pulled in favor of Jonas Hiller in the second period of a 5-3 home loss to Dallas on Nov. 7 after yielding four goals on 13 shots. He's suffered both of Anaheim's losses in the season series while Hiller got credit for the only victory, a 2-1 shootout win at the American Airlines Center on Nov. 22, when he made 23 saves through overtime.

Key Injuries:

Dallas: C Toby Petersen (foot), RW Landon Wilson (ribs), C Brad Richards (wrist), LW Brenden Morrow (knee) and D Sergei Zubov (hip) are out.

Anaheim: D Francois Beauchemin (knee); D Kent Huskins (foot); LW Brad Larsen (sports hernia, hip) are out.

Other news and notes:

  • What I'm looking forward to the most is seeing how Steve Begin fits in on this team. The coaches are big on this guy and yesterday he spent most of the day learning how the Stars' system works.
  • Joel Lundqvist is expected to be ready to go after missing the game Thursday with the Flu. I feel your pain Joel, I feel your pain.
  • Bill Nichols says the Stars are now approaching each game like its a playoff game.
  • JJT has a column up about how Dave Tippett is the best pro coach in the Metroplex.
