The bizarre wheel of NHL situational justice, as we touched on over the weekend. Puck Daddy weighs in and links the above HNIC interview with Colin Campbell. Two things stand out to me about Campbell's thinking: 1) "It might not be as bad as something else, but everything has its measuring stick" (wait, so the measuring stick is different in each case?!); and 2) the number of times Campbell discusses what "kind of player" a guy is. Seems to me we used to only turn to what "type of player" a guy was only when we're trying to divine intent from an ambiguous situation -- as a last resort when video evidence is murky. Otherwise, a clear foul is a clear foul. But apparently since Cammalleri isn't "that type of player" and his infraction came at a dumb time, the severity of his foul (or its suspension-worthiness) somehow isn't as clear. (And only known "bullies" can "bully," apparently.) This case-by-case treatment is a slippery slope -- and it's exactly why I have zero confidence in the NHL's supplementary discipline system.
