Benn, unlike many other skilled forwards in the league, wasn’t given easy minutes. He saw just 2:17 of power play time per game, good for 138th among all NHL forwards. He started only 48 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, a very low total for an offensive forward. ... In his third year, Benn was playing a new position for a team lacking in depth, and he was producing at a rate comparable to some elite talents in the NHL while playing harder minutes against tougher competition. His peers recognized how good he was becoming, as he was voted as the second most underrated player in the league by fellow players (Dallas fans are well aware of who the winner was). From Jeff Angus' very detailed story on Jamie Benn and his rise to becoming an NHL star. This is the most comprehensive history on Benn I've seen yet. A great read, highly recommended. Read it here.

"I'm extremely pleased that we are adding a respected hockey man the caliber of Bob Gainey as a senior advisor to our staff," said Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk. "His experience and wisdom in this business is second-to-none, and he'll be an incredible asset as we continue to build our team to championship levels."

The Dallas Stars officially announce that Bob Gainey has re-joined the team as Senior Advisor to Hockey Department.

MTV3, the official broadcaster of the world hockey championship, reported on its website that Getzlaf, winger Corey Perry and a few other Team Canada players were involved in an incident with drunken Finnish fans following their Saturday night overtime loss to the United States. Getzlaf was alleged to have waved his fist at the Finns and said that "you do not want this" of his fist. Another report said proclaimed himself as "the captain of the Anaheim Ducks" and that he "threatened to knock everyone out in three minutes." Terry Jones, reporting on a story about Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf causing trouble at 3am after the overtime loss to the US. Getzlaf also chatted up Miss Finland. Reportedly, Brian Burke spoke to the team early Sunday morning and no one was inebriated. To be fair, Jamie Benn was at the club as well and seemed to be having a good time.

The team has terminated relationships with Chief Financial Officer Robert Hutson, Assistant Vice President, Communications Rob Scichili and Senior Director of Game Entertainment & Events Jon Adams. The moves are part of changes brought forth by new ownership and by new president Jim Lites. Lites said the decisions were difficult, but are part of building a new team behind the scenes.

The Dallas Stars have announced they have recalled defenseman Philip Larsen from the Texas Stars. Larsen played two games over the weekend, both losses. No word yet on whether to expect Tomas Vincour back with the team at some point in the near future. Vincour scored a goal on Friday night. With Larsen, the Stars have 8 defenseman now on the roster. With both Souray and Robidas battling foot injuries, there's a chance this is just precautionary. More to come after practice this afternoon.

"How do you deal with the problem? You have to make them aware that they are not good enough – with or without Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro in the lineup – to not be a hardworking team. That’s the message. They are just not good enough." "You have to work 60 minutes. We have to work 60 minutes every night with everyone in our lineup if we want to play in the playoffs. If we don’t, then we won’t play. That needs to be learned."
