Per our sources at the game tonight (Brad...), Glen Gulutzan stated after the loss to the Red Wings that Jamie Benn has not been ruled out for the All-Star Game and could possibly play next week against Anaheim. That would be a 10-day hiatus after his surgery. Gulutzan also stated that Larsen should be ready for Friday's game -- so, are the Stars keeping eight d-men for now, or is someone else being sent down?

Tomas Vincour Activated; Wathier Sent Back To Texas

6

The Stars announced this morning that they have activated Tomas Vincour officially from IR and have sent Francis Wathier back to the Texas Stars. This makes Vincour the Stars' 12th healthy forward for now, meaning either he will play tonight against Detroit or the Stars will use seven defensemen. Wathier played 5:25 last night and recorded 3 hits. I'm betting Vincour plays despite not having practiced, but we'll see what Gully says here in a bit.

Stars trade Roman for Esposito

15

The Dallas Stars made a move in their minor-league system late Friday afternoon when they sent prospect left wing Ondrej Roman to the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Angelo Esposito. Both players were selected in the 2007 draft - Roman in the 5th round by the Stars and Esposito with the 20th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Neither player will have to move far. Esposito is currently with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage, where he has two goals, three assists and and eight penalty minutes in 16 games. He also spent three games in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones this season. Roman has spent most of the season with the Texas Stars, where he has one goal and four assists.

Esposito is a center, but I don't know much about him. He was a first-round pick in '07. Does he have potential at the NHL level or is he an AHLer? Thoughts?

Ribeiro Still Not Skating; Out "A Few More Days"

2

"Ribs is still sore," said Glen Gulutzan today in Frisco. "He's got a significant injury there. He hasn't even started riding the bike yet so he'll be at least another few more days." The Stars play three in four nights here coming up so a few more days sounds to me like he's very likely out for Monday and Tuesday's games, and those are tough ones against the best teams in the league. With some luck hopefully he can be back for the three contests leading up to the All-Star break; winnable games against the Lightning, Wild and Ducks.

SBNation.com - Dallas Stars' Tom Gaglardi: The Rare Sports Owner Who's Right For His Team

It's been a very long time, but we finally start to get to see positive articles about the ownership of the Dallas Stars. Dominik Jansky has a great article on Gaglardi and the changes that have been since he's taken over, and how he's showing himself to be the perfect owner for this team.

Dallas Stars Prospect Jamie Oleksiak Traded To Niagara Ice Dogs

4

Top Stars prospect Jamieson Oleksiak has been traded today from the Saginaw Spirit to the Niagara Ice Dogs. The Spirit have gone a into a bit of "fire sale" mode, as they've struggled this season and have picked up some future prospects while trading some top players. This is a great opportunity for Oleksiak, who now heads to a talented Niagara team that is pushing for the top spot in the OHL. He also joins Stars prospect Brett Ritchie, who was traded to Niagara last week.

Jamie Benn Named The NHL First Star Of The Week

1

As expected, Jamie Benn was named the NHL's First Star Of The Week as the power forward notched seven points (4-3-7) in three games against Detroit, Nashville and Edmonton. The NHL didn't count the NYE game against Boston. Also earning honors this week were Joffrey Lupul and Craig Anderson.
