They addressed an organizational need for a backup goaltender by signing Anders Lindback.
He is signed to a one year deal. That gives Jack Campbell a chance to prove he could be ready for backup NHL duty after a full season in the AHL as "the guy" this season.
Lindback offers something some of the previous Stars backups, like Richard Bachman and Tim Thomas, lacked -- comparable size to starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen. Lindback is listed at 6'6". Maybe the comparable sizes and styles of the 26-year-old Swede to Lehtonen will help the team to play the same in front of the backup as they do in front of the starter.
Lindback has 85 games played at the NHL level, posting a career save percentage of .904% with a 2.74 goals against average. He also appeared in four playoff games with the Tampa Bay Lightning when Ben Bishop went down to injury. Tampa was swept by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the eastern conference playoffs.
