NHL Playoffs: Dallas Stars' Key Injuries Called "Game-Time" Decisions for Game 5 Friday

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The bumps and bruises are piling up, but the Stars are still fighting.

The NHL playoffs are hard. The Anaheim Ducks have lost Stephane Robidas for the series, Ryan Getzlaf for a game, Matt Beleskey for a few and Elias Lindholm for a period last night.

The Dallas Stars have been pretty fortunate to this point, but last night there were some scares. Jamie Benn appeared to have an issue of some kind when he left the ice expeditiously Wednesday night and went immediately to the locker room, only to return a  few minutes later.

Ryan Garbutt was distressed and in apparent pain in the third period just before Cody Eakin's game winner and had trouble getting over the boards and back onto the bench. He would return. But these things could snowball.

Patrik Nemeth was felled by an unspecified malady Wednesday and did not return, and that's where things start to get hairy. Already without Brenden Dillon, Nemeth's absence could give rise to more minutes for Aaron Rome, Sergei Gonchar and Kevin Connauton.

There is a chance, however, that both could be ready for Friday.

After Anaheim PR sent an email to media literally AS the Ducks were walking down the tunnel to take the ice for pregame warmups, it would make sense that the Stars will not tip their hand on those decision until about 9:35pm on Friday night.

So hope and speculate, but that's all it will be for the next 31 hours.

Those additions, if healthy enough to truly contribute in the regular capacities, could save this series, because Alex Goligoski and Trevor Daley cannot continue to be exposed to excessive minutes and the general wear and tear that goes along with it. Not for long.

The Stars had an optional skate this morning and a meeting, so there's not much information known beyond that. It's a mysterious time of year, after all.

The Ducks are hoping to get Ryan Getzlaf back for game 5, and he's officially day-to-day with an upper body injury that may or may not be related to the puck he took in the face at the end of game one. For the captain of the Ducks to miss a pivotal game like that -you have to wonder what's going on there.

Dallas announced this morning that game time for Game 6 on Sunday at American Airlines Center will be 7:00pm CST, carried on NBC Sports Network nationally, and, we'd imagine, TXA-21 or FSSW locally.

See you on Friday night, boys.
