1. I was born in Fort Worth in 1985. I have lived in Mexia, Corsicana, and Lewisville. I've lived out of state a bunch too, but Texas will always be home, especially the Metroplex. I love Texas. All my favorite teams in every sport are Texas teams.
2. I've always hoped the Stars did well, but I only actually followed them one year. It may have been the luckiest time of my life, because I started watching every Stars game when I heard they made the playoffs in 1999. Yeah. I knew virtually nothing about hockey (still don't), so I never even knew when the next season started. I never followed the team again... until now.
3. A Canadian friend of mine was living with me and my wife for a little while and got me mildly interested in hockey over the last couple of months. He was one of the most dedicated fans of a sports team I've met. In a country focused more on other sports, he followed his Vancouver Canucks religiously. He was so polite and genuinely interested in my football, baseball, and basketball teams, I figured I owed him a little attention to his team. So I checked out Nucks Misconduct, the Vancouver SB Nation blog. I loved it. Already being a devotee of several other SB Nation sites, including being a front page writer for one, I love the grass roots vibe of the home team blog. I then decided it was time to Defend Big D.
So here I am. A new fan of the Stars who took a strange path to get here. I experienced the latter glory of '99. I want to be there for the whole season when the next one comes.
Now I'll close by throwing in a bit of opinion from someone who doesn't know what icing means: I love Lehtinen. I also hope they don't break up Benn and Seguin. I think if we stick it out, those two guys are cornerstones for years to come, but they need to keep playing together now. Now everyone who actually knows what they're talking about go ahead and tell me what I said wrong. I seriously want to learn.
