Alex Chiasson Nets Shootout Winner as Stars Prospects Defeat Wild 2-1 in Traverse City

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Stars moved to 2-1-0 at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament Sunday night after a shootout win.

The Dallas Stars concluded round robin play in Traverse City Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild prospect group.

The Stars appeared to have dominated possession throughout, out-shooting the Wild 17-9 in the opening frame and 43-28 overall, though apparently struggling to beat 2010 6th round pick Jonas Gustafsson in the Wild goal.

They trailed 1-0 going into the third period but top prospect Valeri Nichushkin finally broke through 53 minutes into the game to knot things at one and send the game to overtime, and eventually a shootout.

Alex Chiasson scored the game's lone shootout goal, sealing the victory for Dallas and bringing their record to 2-1-0 on the tournament.

Depending on how things shake out the rest of the day the Stars could be on track to play either the New York Rangers prospects or the Blue Jackets' in a third place game tomorrow, or possibly be relegated to the 5th place game depending on goal differential and how the Blues do in the mean time.

Either way, Jack Campbell is supposed to get the start in goal tomorrow at what will likely be 3pm or 6pm in Dallas. Follow @DefendingBigD on Twitter for updates.

The real test will come in preseason action a week from tonight at the American Airlines Center, where he and the rest of the hopefuls will begin competing against a sprinkling of more experienced, NHL-level competition.

Nevertheless, those in attendance seem to be impressed with that they see...

Mark Stepneski of Stars Inside Edge was more impressed with Maxime Lagace's performance in the Dallas net...
