Most every hockey fan has visited CapGeek to see who is getting paid what and for how long. Another cool feature they have is the cap calculator which lets every armchair GM design a team's roster for the upcoming season using the new CBA.
I thought it would be fun to see what fans here think/would do if they were the man in the hot seat to make this team better in a single off season. Be creative using trades, free agent signings, and call ups from the Texas Stars. You can head over to CapGeek or just use the link to go straight to the cap calculator.
Once you have created your roster publish and post it or a link to it and explain/support your decisions to do what you did.
To get things started here is mine:
Ray Whitney ($4.500m) / Jamie Benn ($5.250m) / Nathan Horton ($6.000m)
Loui Eriksson ($4.250m) / Stephen Weiss ($5.000m) / Erik Cole ($4.500m)
Antoine Roussel ($0.613m) / Cody Eakin ($0.638m) / Alex Chiasson ($0.900m)
Lane MacDermid ($0.660m) / Vernon Fiddler ($1.800m) / Scott Glennie ($1.620m)
Francis Wathier ($0.575m) / Ryan Garbutt ($0.575m) /
Rob Scuderi ($4.000m) / Sergei Gonchar ($5.000m)
Brenden Dillon ($0.900m) / Alex Goligoski ($4.600m)
Cameron Gaunce ($0.827m) / Stephane Robidas ($3.300m)
Aaron Rome ($1.500m) /
Kari Lehtonen ($5.900m)
Cristopher Nilstorp ($1.000m)
Buyout: Eric Godard ($0.233m)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,140,486; BONUSES: $885,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,044,514
Free Agent Additions: Rob Scuderi (3 year/12 million) - veteran/playoff/recent cup experience, Stephen Weiss (4 year/20 million) - excellent 2nd line center/playmaker, Nathan Horton (5 year/30 million) - probably a bit over paid but necessary to land the top free agent right wing. Also gives Chiasson time to continue development without undue pressure to perform on the top line.
What say you?
