Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Radek Faksa, Kitchener Rangers, Out of the OHL Playoffs

Richard Wolowicz

How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress

Very few Dallas Stars prospects remain in their respective playoff runs with many having been eliminated in the first round.

In the OHL Radek Faksa and the Kitchener Rangers were beaten by the London Knights in a 4-1 series. Faksa looked good despite only getting a single point, a goal, in the series. It finishes off what has been a relatively standstill season for him. He will almost certainly remain with the Kitchener Rangers for the next OHL season and will hopefully take a step forward in his development.

At least one Stars prospect will advance to the OHL Western Conference final against the London Knights. Cody Payne of the Plymouth Whalers will face off against the London Knights. The Plymouth Whalers, with Cody Payne, beat Owen Sound Attack, with Gemel Smith, overall in the series 4-2. Gemel Smith had a single assist in the three games they played this week.

In the WHL Taylor Peters, a free agent signing earlier this year, and the Portland Winterhawks are in the Western Championship final. In the four games they played this week he had a goal and two assists.

In Sweden John Klingbergs Skelleftea have a 2-0 grip on the series for the Elitserie championship. Klingberg has a single assist in those two games.

Ludwig Bystrom and Modo J20 fell in their championship series 3-2. I don't have game by game breakdowns for those games and his individual statistics have yet to be updated.

Players Turning Professional:

Just a quick update on those prospects who have been joining the professional ranks for the end of the season. As most are already aware Brett Ritchie is now playing with the Texas Stars. Curtis McKenzie signed an entry level contract with the Dallas Stars that starts at the beginning of next season. He currently is playing with the Texas Stars on an Amateur Try Out. Jyrki Jokipakka was assigned to the Texas Stars earlier this week and, depending on the situation on their blueline, will be playing a few games with the Texas Stars before their playoff run.
